ARCTIC SUN HIGHLIGHTS

This incredible Challenge event will help crews experience the ultimate Norwegian adventure. From the Arctic splendour of Tromsø to the historic beauty of Bergen, our 2,500km route showcases the breathtaking landscapes of Norway, from fertile alpine valleys lined with snow-capped mountains to tranquil fishing villages and deep glacial fjords.

With places limited to 30 crews, this event promises a exclusive and social experience complete with stays in handpicked hotels, amazing excursions and delicious culinary experiences.

DAY 0

SUNDAY 21ST JUNE | TROMSØ

We will complete scrutineering and documentation sessions on Sunday, with time for crews to explore the historic wooden architecture of Tromsø’s charming city centre. Everyone will come together for a welcome evening of fantastic Norwegian cuisine and anticipation of the exciting adventure ahead.

DAY 1

MONDAY 22ND JUNE | TROMSØ TO HARSTAD

Starting from the Arctic gateway of Tromsø, our challenge will head west across the Sandnes strait towards the island of Kvaløya via the Sandessundbrua. We will spend our first morning surrounded by a tapestry of snow-capped mountains, deep fjords, and quaint fishing villages as we travel south via alpine-laden coastal roads towards the island of Hinnøya, and our overnight stop in the beautiful seaside city of Harstad.

DAY 2

TUESDAY 23RD JUNE | HARSTAD TO SVOLVÆR

We will start early on day two as we head west across the Vesterålen towards the village of Stø for a fantastic Arctic whale tour. After a light lunch, we will continue our journey south across the islands of Langøya and Hinnøya crossing through the spectacular Møysalen National Park towards our overnight halt in Svolvær in the heart of the Lofoten Islands. This beautiful archipelago is known for its dramatic scenery our crews will be captivated by the stunning views of fjords, mountains, and the rugged Norwegian coastline as we rest for the night in the shadow of the horned peaks of Svolværgeita.

DAY 3

WEDNESDAY 24TH JUNE | SVOLVÆR

Day three will start with a drive south to visit the fascinating and unique village of Å, on the southern tip of the Lofoten islands. Å is Norway’s best-preserved fishing village, composed of traditional wooden buildings housing Norway’s oldest fish oil factory and a still-running bakery that opened in 1844. From Å we will head for lunch in the breathtaking village of Reine. With red and white fishermen’s huts dotting the shoreline and surrounding peaks of granite shooting out of the Reinefjorden, Reine has earned a reputation as “the most beautiful place in the world”. After a scenic drive north, we will return to Svolvær to take a short afternoon boat ride to the island of Skrova, famous for its breathtaking views of the Loften archipelago and renowned photography exhibits. On Skrova we will visit the wonderful Ellingsen Seafood before enjoying a fine dinner and a late-night boat ride back to our hotel in Svolvær.

DAY 4

THURSDAY 25TH JUNE | SVOLVÆR TO BODØ

The day will start with an early morning ferry from Svolvaer to Skutvik. This scenic journey will provide our crews with panoramic views of the magnificent Lofoten landscape and the rugged coastline of the Norwegian mainland as we cross the Vestfjorden. From Skutvik we will enjoy a scenic drive inland along a route, dotted with beautiful natural lakes, tree-lined valleys and spectacular mountain peaks. We will stop for a light lunch in the village of Mørsvikbotn before continuing our journey south along a mix of inland and coastal roads towards the urban splendour of Bodø, and our stop for day four.

DAY 5

FRIDAY 26TH JUNE | BODØ TO ØRNES

Day five is a spectacular mix of inspiring natural wonders and awesome coastal landscapes as we travel south from Bodø. We will experience the incredible power of the world's strongest tidal current, the awe-inspiring Saltstraumen Maelstrom and bask in the beautiful tranquillity of the Svartisen Glacier before enjoying a leisurely journey along the rugged Hurtigruten coast, stopping to immerse ourselves in an evening of fresh seafood and traditional Norwegian dishes, in the coastal town of Ørnes.

DAY 6

SATURDAY 27TH JUNE | ØRNES TO BRØNNØYSUND

From Ørnes we will head south along the beautiful Helgeland coast towards Brønnøysund. Our journey will be long but rewarding as we take in idyllic fishing villages and alpine valleys via a mix of fantastic coastal roads and short ferry crossings. We will stop for lunch in the town of Sandnessjøen overlooked by the fabulous Seven Sisters Mountain range, before continuing our quest south to the coastal centre of Brønnøysund, our halt for day six.

DAY 7

SUNDAY 28TH JUNE | BRØNNØYSUND TO TRONDHEIM

We will leave Brønnøysund early on day seven to enjoy a mazy run south to Trondheim. Our route will be lined with coastal landscapes, verdant pine forests and stretches of wilderness as we head towards Norway’s historic capital, and the home of the magnificent Nidaros Cathedral. We will halt for the evening in Trondheim and enjoy dinner in the charming Bakklandet neighbourhood.

DAY 8

MONDAY 29TH JUNE | TRONDHEIM TO ÅNDALSNES

The scenery on day eight is both visually stunning and dramatic as we head south from Trondheim towards Åndalsnes. After a magnificent morning drive west through the Norwegian mainland we will stop for lunch in the coastal town of Kristiansund before we enter the Atlantic Ocean Tunnel towards the island of Averøya and the beginning of the famous Atlantic Road. This unique stretch of road is said to be the world's most beautiful drive, taking drivers and their vehicles to the edge of the ocean and back again. From the Atlantic Road, we will trace the shores of the Kvernesfjorden south before crossing the Hustadvika countryside towards Molde and onwards to our destination, the “alp village by the fjord” Åndalsnes.

DAY 9

TUESDAY 30TH JUNE | ÅNDALSNES TO FLORØ VIA TROLLSTIGEN, GEIRANGER, DALSNIBBA

On day nine, we will embark on a spectacular drive to Florø, which is Norway’s westernmost town. Florø is known for its maritime heritage and stunning coastal scenery. Our journey will take us along the winding Trollstigen road, offering breathtaking scenery and hairpin bends. We will then visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Geirangerfjord, renowned for its deep blue waters and majestic cliffs. The day will conclude with a visit to Dalsnibba, where we can enjoy panoramic views of Geirangerfjord from the majestic skywalk. We will then return to Florø for an evening of fantastic local cuisine.

DAY 10

WEDNESDAY 1ST JULY | FLORØ

Day ten will be a rest day to allow the crews to explore the sites of Florø, including a morning visit to the Steinvik Visitors Centre and Salmon Fishery. In the afternoon we will visit Alex Vassbotten’s private car collection before departing for a coastal sightseeing tour onboard the authentic 1930s fjord steamer MS Atløy.

DAY 11

THURSDAY 2ND JULY | FLORØ TO BERGEN

Our final morning will feature a drive southwest through the coastal landscape of western Norway. We will pass breathtaking fjords, amazing glaciers, natural waterfalls and verdant pine forests as we head towards Bergen, the “capital of the Fjords” and the end of our challenge. We will complete our challenge early on the final day, allowing our crews time to explore the colourful wooden houses of Bryggen Wharf and discover Bergen's charming streets and historic sites before we celebrate with a wonderful night of fresh seafood and local delicacies.

Any three or four-wheeled vehicles built before December 31st, 1999 are eligible for the challenge.

ON EVENT SUPPORT

Although mechanical support will be available throughout the event, the ability to carry out regular maintenance on your own car is essential. Should you need to be transported by truck we will help as much as we can, but all responsibility, including payment, rests with the competitor. We always have at least one doctor or paramedic on our experienced and friendly event team.

NAVIGATION

The route will be defined in a detailed tulip Road Book and an overview map of the route will also be provided.

TYPES OF ROAD

The Arctic Sun Classic will take place predominantly on asphalt and lightly gravelled roads, rougher roads and surfaces will be avoided wherever possible.

HOSPITALITY

Twelve nights’ accommodation is included in a shared room (double or twin). Single rooms are available for a supplementary fee but may be limited at some hotels. Where available we aim to provide a mixture of 4 and 5-star accommodation, taking into account the need for parking and ease of access. In Brønnøysund and Ørnes our options are limited to 3-star only.

Breakfast, coffee, lunch and dinner are provided throughout the event and any allergies, specific dietary requirements, or religious preferences will be catered for (subject to prior communication).
