Budapest Roadmap

QUEEN OF THE DANUBE HIGHLIGHTS

This incredible classic car touring event will see crews journeying over 3,000km, through eight different countries between Bucharest and Budapest. Our route will be composed of asphalt and gravel roads lined with snow-capped mountains, alpine scenery, spectacular lakes, historically significant cities, and tranquil villages.

DAYS 1 TO 5

SATURDAY 13TH TO WEDNESDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER | BUCHAREST, BRASOV, CLUJ-NAPOCA, TIMIȘOARA & SARAJEVO

Starting our rally from the historic city of Bucharest, we spend our first four days exploring the mountain passes and forest roads of Romania, including a loop around the beautiful Bâlea Lake between Brasov and Cluj Napoca. We will spend a night in Timișoara, famous for its stunning Secessionist architecture and the mosaic-patterned Metropolitan Orthodox Cathedral before heading West to Bosnia Herzegovina, via the rugged landscapes of Serbia, staying overnight in the historic capital of Sarajevo.

DAYS 6 & 7

THURSDAY 18TH TO FRIDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER | SARAJEVO, SPLIT & RIJEKA

The scenery changes dramatically in day six, as mountain roads and alpine forests make way for the sheltered harbours, sandy beaches, and quiet fishing villages of the Dalmatian coast. Our first overnight halt will be in Split, on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, followed by a day of driving across the moonlike terrain of the Dalmatian archipelago to the gorgeous port city of Rijeka, our stop for day seven.

DAYS 8 & 9

SATURDAY 20TH TO SUNDAY 21ST SEPTEMBER | RIJEKA, LJUBLJANA & GRAZ

On day eight we will experience the spectacular countryside of Slovenia as we journey through the Triglavski National Park and Lake Bled to our overnight stop in Ljubljana. Day nine will see us head North to Austria, via the city of Maribor and across the Central Eastern Alps for our night in Graz.

DAY 10

MONDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER | GRAZ TO BRATISLAVA

From Graz, we will head Northeast to Slovakia, passing through vineyards and the medieval castled ruins of the heavily forested Little Carpathian Mountains, pausing on day ten in the nation’s capital, Bratislava.

DAY 11

TUESDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER | BRATISLAVA TO BUDAPEST

Our final day will see us trace the Danube South from Bratislava, passing through the oak forests and limestone mountains around Tata and the Duna-Ipoly Nemzeti Park to our destination, Budapest the “Queen of the Danube”. We will finish our challenge at lunchtime on the final day, allowing our crews time to enjoy this beautiful city, before we enjoy a wonderful night of cocktails and exquisite Hungarian cuisine.

CHARACTERISTICS

Any three or four-wheeled vehicles built before December 31st, 1999 are eligible for the challenge.

ON EVENT SUPPORT

Although mechanical support will be available throughout the event, the ability to carry out regular maintenance on your own car is essential. Should you need to be transported by truck we will help as much as we can, but all responsibility, including payment, rests with the competitor. We always have at least one doctor or paramedic on our experienced and friendly event team.

NAVIGATION

The route will be defined in a detailed tulip Road Book and an overview map of the route will also be provided.

TYPES OF ROAD

Whilst the Queen of the Danube Challenge will take place predominantly on asphalt roads and rough roads will be avoided wherever possible. However, we do include some gravel sections in Romania, especially around Bâlea Lake.

HOSPITALITY

Eleven nights’ accommodation is included in a shared room (double or twin). Single rooms are available for a supplementary fee but may be limited at some hotels. We aim to provide a mixture of 4 and 5 star accommodation throughout the challenge, taking into account the need for parking and ease of access.

Breakfast, coffee, lunch and dinner are provided throughout the event and any allergies, specific dietary requirements, or religious preferences will be catered for (subject to prior communication).
